Bone Broth & The Benefits

Bone broth has been used traditionally as a healing food for hundreds of years. Remember mum's advise when you were sick? Have some chicken broth dear! This is not the packet soup you see in the supermarket laden with additives, chemicals and preservatives, this was the good ol' bone broth - made with the bones from either chicken, beef or fish and simmering in water and vinegar for 24 - 72 hours to allow the nutrients, minerals, protein and cartilage to be extracted into this extremely healing broth.

Aside from being an essential when healing gastrointestinal upsets (I recommend all my patients have a cup of this a day or use in cooking daily during treatment) and for joint issues (due to the high density of minerals and cartilage), here is a comprehensive alphabetical list of conditions that can be benefited from some daily bone broth:

How to use bone broth:

The great thing about bone broth is that it is so versatile you can use it in many different ways. The stock will last 5 days in the fridge or up to 3 months in the freezer.
Here are some of the ways I find it easiest and best to use it:

  • As stock in cooking (I suggest freezing in ice cube trays for a quick addition to a meal)
  • As a base for soups and stews
  • As a nutritious daily drink
